According to the World Bank, Colombia is the second country in Latin America with the highest dropout rate in college. There, higher education coverage is around 52% of young people between 17 and 24 years old. However, it is estimated that in the first years, 42% of those who enter college abandon it.
Under those circumstances and based on our own experiences, we decided to contribute to Colombian society through IMPACT-U in alliance with the students' service departments from or public universities. The aim is to encourage potential students with a desire to continue their undergraduate studies but are hampered by limited financial resources to continue with their goals.
Impact- U is focused on two programs:
Short-term and Long-term. In the Short term, we will provide financial assistance to students who are attending undergraduate programs at public universities and who are at risk of dropping out for budgetary reasons. They normally originate from rural areas, far from main cities and the lack of adequate funds is a significant barrier to continually achieving their educational goals.
Regarding our Long-term programs, we plan to conduct outreach and train high school students from towns and villages far from the main cities.
The goal is for these at-risk students to have access to and pass public university entrance exams. A major barrier to these gifted students, is having the basic funding needed solely to sit for a public university entrance exam. Subsequently, we will continue providing them with financial support and sponsorship during their undergraduate program term.
Our Goals
1. We believe that education is a fundamental human right that encourages and foments the existence of other rights. An educated society is comprehensive, sustainable and promotes individual development. Latin America and the Caribbean's educational systems are marked by profound inequality and Colombia as a nation is no stranger to this reality. We want to help people who have low incomes to accomplish their professional studies. We will be impacting individuals, communities and subsequently a society as a whole.
2. The majority of the members of the board have experienced difficult and adverse situations during their individual academic experiences. It was only through the support from others that they were able to achieve their goals. It is time to give it back to society. We want to work together with many people who want to repay to society the help they received. We call it the butterfly effect.
3. Impact-U will conduct social projects to those vulnerable communities where selected students belong. It makes IMPAC-U transcend from the monetary and individual to the social and collective.
IMPACT-U helps and contributes to students from vulnerable communities in Colombia. Our goal is to assist them in reaching their educational goals, by providing the financial assistance and educational resources needed to complete the undergraduate program and ultimately obtain a college degree. Promoting personal development helps build a stronger society.
Your generous donation, support and contributions will enable us to help vulnerable communities in Colombia by promoting personal development to build a stronger society.
